As a result of the Armenian genocide of 1915, Armenia has one of the largest diasporas in the world. 'Armen' was inspired by popular records of the diaspora from the 1970s and 80s found on vinyl and audio cassettes, which the author collected during his field trip to Armenia. The material is infused with a sense of nostalgia, whereas the use of the traditional Armenian music elements adds ethnic coloring. The composer merges different excerpts of music with and juxtaposes them against noise and glitch textures, thereby completely transforming the original material and reconstructing its narratives anew.
