Monikaze (the stage name of Monika Zenkevičiūtė, b. 1995) is a rising star in the area of electronic music. She released her debut album Chicken Wings in 2019 and has shared the stage with Dopplereffekt, Algiers, First Hate and other well-known electronic musicians. A contract with London-based Moshi Moshi Records and releasing a new album Waste of Space are among her most recent accomplishments. Her Circle Ending, compared to the other two pieces composed for the Vilnius LAB, is marked by a particularly strong rhythm that keeps on pulsating throughout the composition and serves as its main driving force. The pulse materialises both through the singers’ voices and electronic sound. The electronics is what the composer was particularly keen to display here, its lush sounds growing over the entire piece, yet maintaining a harmonious balance with the choir. In Circle Ending, the basic concept is the shortage of time and the understanding that an issue should be put aside, without even trying to contemplate it. Not unexpectedly, the rhythms lure the listener into a trance where the concept of time becomes obsolete.
